Product Overview

In real-world trauma events, the medic or first responder rarely encounters a situation requiring only wound packing or only tourniquet application — they encounter casualties with multiple injuries requiring both. TCCC's "Care Under Fire" and "Tactical Field Care" phases sequence these interventions, with tourniquet application for life-threatening extremity hemorrhage followed by wound packing for non-tourniquetable junctional and truncal wounds. Training both skills in the same session, with the same student, on the same day, builds the integrated decision-making capability that saves lives.

The Tourniquet Trainer component provides a realistic limb model for practicing the full application sequence of windlass-based tourniquets (C-A-T® Gen 7, SAM XT) and other extremity tourniquet devices. The large-caliber simulated wound with active TrueClot® blood simulant provides the visual urgency context — an actively bleeding wound — that motivates correct tourniquet application speed and proper tightness. Trainees learn to work decisively on a tourniquet application while the TrueClot® bleeding simulation provides time-pressure feedback.

For programs that want a single instructor kit covering the two most critical non-surgical hemorrhage control interventions — wound packing and tourniquet application — the Tourniquet Trainer Instructor Kit is the most comprehensive single-purchase option in the TrueClot® product line. It eliminates the need to source a separate tourniquet training arm while maintaining the full wound packing training capability of the other TrueClot® instructor kits.

Integrated Training Curriculum

A recommended two-station training flow for a class of 6–12 students:

  • Station 1 — Tourniquet: Each student applies a C-A-T® Gen 7 or SAM XT tourniquet to the Tourniquet Trainer arm with active TrueClot® bleeding. Time from recognition to hemorrhage control is measured. Target: <30 seconds, one-handed.
  • Station 2 — Wound Packing: Each student packs the TrueClot® Task Trainer GSW wound with simulated hemostatic gauze in wet mode. Simulated clot formation confirms correct technique. Target: complete wound packing with maintained digital pressure within 90 seconds.
  • Integration Scenario: Combine both trainers for a single multi-injury casualty scenario requiring wound assessment, tourniquet decision-making, and packing intervention in correct TCCC sequence.
