The M2 Ratcheting Medical Tourniquet® (RMT) — 2" Wide by m2® Inc. delivers the same self-locking ratchet mechanism as the Tactical RMT in a wider 2" Coyote webbing format, distributing occlusive pressure over a broader surface area for enhanced patient comfort and effective occlusion at lower applied force. Available in Tan (Coyote) for the tactical market. Can be folded to reduce footprint. Proven ratchet technology since 2002.

Product Overview
The M2 RMT 2" Wide applies the same reliable ratcheting buckle-and-ladder-strap principle as the Tactical RMT but steps up to a 2" (50 mm) Coyote webbing band and a 1.0" ratcheting buckle for greater surface coverage. Wider tourniquet bands reduce the pressure per square centimeter required to achieve arterial occlusion, a clinically meaningful advantage in prolonged field care settings where a tourniquet may remain in place for an extended period before surgical definitive care is available. The reduced localized pressure also decreases the risk of tourniquet-related ischemic nerve injury — a concern in any scenario where removal and re-application may be delayed.
The self-locking ratchet design remains one of the RMT's most operationally significant features. Unlike windlass tourniquets — where a dislodged or improperly locked rod results in sudden loss of occlusive pressure — the RMT's ladder-strap mechanism holds each increment of pressure independently. The device cannot unwind from vibration during CASEVAC, rough patient handling, or vehicle transport. Each ratchet click is both audible and tactile, providing positive feedback that pressure has been increased, even when the operator is working in total darkness, wearing heavy gloves, or under significant stress. The two-step application instructions printed on the webbing itself mean that even a first-time user can apply the device correctly with minimal prompting.
The 2" Wide RMT is currently available in Coyote Tan for the tactical market. For a more compact alternative using the same ratchet mechanism, see the M2 RMT 1.5" Tactical. For CoTCCC-recommended windlass alternatives, the C-A-T® Gen 7 and SOF-T® are available in the tourniquets & pouches collection.
How to Apply
- Place the RMT 2–3 inches above the wound on the affected limb. For the largest limb circumferences, two RMTs may be linked together.
- Thread the 2" webbing through the 1.0" ratcheting buckle and pull to engage the ladder strap — each click confirms an increment of added pressure.
- Continue pulling to ratchet tighter until bleeding stops and distal pulse is absent — the self-locking design holds each increment without additional action.
- Note application time and relay to receiving medical personnel.
Comparison Context
The M2 RMT 2" Wide competes with wide-band ratchet options such as the TX3 3" Ratchet Tourniquet. The TX3 is wider at 3" and CoTCCC-recommended, making it the preferred option where maximum band width and official CoTCCC listing are required. The M2 RMT 2" offers a more compact packaged footprint and lighter overall weight, relevant when carrying multiple tourniquets or building compact trauma kits. Both are ratchet-based systems that eliminate windlass-related failure modes.
