Wound Management Leg Trainer

Regular price $674.95 Regular price

The MED-TAC HM Wound Management Leg Trainer is a full-size, self-healing human-tissue-analog leg model featuring three wound patterns — a severe laceration and two gunshot entry/exit wounds — with a palpable bone structure and a gravity-fed 1,000 ml IV bleeding system. Trains tourniquet application, hemostatic wound packing, and pressure bandage application in a single integrated task trainer.

Product Overview

Lower extremity injuries — gunshot wounds and severe lacerations to the thigh and lower leg — represent a disproportionate share of combat and tactical trauma. The femoral artery in the upper thigh is capable of producing fatal exsanguination in under two minutes, and wound packing to the bone in a deep thigh wound is one of the most technically demanding skills in the TCCC curriculum. The HM Wound Management Leg Trainer is built to train all three primary lower extremity interventions — tourniquet application, wound packing, and pressure bandage application — on a single realistic platform.

The trainer features a full-size leg with three distinct wound patterns. The severe laceration wound is the primary tourniquet and pressure bandage station: students apply a tourniquet at the optimal proximal location based on the laceration site, simulate pulsatile blood flow by applying pressure to the IV bag, and assess whether the tourniquet effectively eliminates the pulsatile quality. The two gunshot entry and exit wounds provide wound packing stations where students practice deep packing — pushing hemostatic gauze to the base of the wound cavity and making contact with the simulated vessel — a critical technique that many students practice too superficially. The internal bone structure, palpable through the surrounding tissue analog, provides the tactile cue that "packing to the bone" requires and that no two-dimensional diagram can adequately teach.

The self-healing tissue material allows the wounds to be repacked repeatedly without degradation, and the gravity-fed IV bleeding system requires no power infrastructure. After each wound-packing repetition, the wound cavity is cleared and reset, the IV bag refilled, and the trainer is ready for the next student. The included hard plastic carrying case protects the trainer during transport to field training sites.

Skills Trained

  • Tourniquet application: Identify optimal placement site based on wound location; apply tourniquet and windlass to cessation of pulsatile flow
  • Wound packing: Pack hemostatic gauze deeply into GSW cavities; make contact with simulated bleeding vessel; feel bone structure during packing
  • Pressure bandage application: Secure pressure bandage over packed wound; maintain compression without over-bandaging
  • Wound assessment: Assess three distinct wound patterns on one limb; practice injury triage and treatment prioritization
