For rifle-rated protection, a hard armor plate rated Level III or Level IV must be added — the soft panel can then serve as a backer behind the hard plate for enhanced trauma management.

Can the NcStar soft panel be used as a backer behind a hard plate?

Yes. The NcStar VISM soft panel can be used as a stand-alone Level IIIA insert or placed behind a hard armor plate (Level III or IV) as a soft backer. When stacked with a hard plate, the soft panel provides additional back-face deformation (BFD) control and can extend protection to handgun threats in plate-gap zones.
