Product Overview

Scalp lacerations are among the most common traumatic injuries encountered by EMS, tactical medics, and emergency physicians — and among the most challenging to manage effectively in the field. The scalp is highly vascularized; even minor lacerations can produce dramatic bleeding that is frightening to the patient and technically difficult to control with standard bandaging techniques. The traditional approach — manual pressure with a gauze pad and improvised head wrap — is inconsistent, unreliable, and ties up one provider who must maintain constant pressure instead of addressing other injuries.

The Rescue Essentials Trauma Cap solves this problem with a mechanical compression system. The cap positions over a sterile gauze pad placed directly on the wound, then elastic straps with hook-and-loop fasteners are drawn forward and secured to the front of the cap. Additional straps allow customizable pressure adjustment across the scalp surface. An optional chin strap prevents cap displacement on combative or moving patients. The result is consistent, hands-free mechanical compression that maintains pressure without requiring a dedicated provider — freeing them for other critical care tasks.

FDA clearance confirms the Trauma Cap has undergone regulatory review as a medical device. The patented design was developed and tested by emergency physicians who identified the gaps in existing improvised head wrap techniques. At just 4 oz, it adds negligible weight to any IFAK, trauma bag, or vehicle kit while providing a standardized, reproducible intervention for one of the most common injury patterns in both civilian trauma and combat casualty care.

How to Apply the Trauma Cap

  1. Apply a sterile gauze pad directly to the bleeding scalp wound
  2. Open the Trauma Cap and position over the patient's head with the elastic strap anchor point behind the patient's head
  3. Pull elastic bands forward so their common anchor point is firm against the back of the head
  4. Secure the elastic hook-and-loop fasteners to the front of the cap
  5. Apply optional chin strap if needed to prevent displacement
  6. Apply additional fastener straps for extra compression across the scalp if needed
  7. Monitor closely and adjust compression as required
