What injury does the TrueClot Chest Seal Application Training System train responders to treat?

The system trains chest seal application for open chest wounds — penetrating injuries that create a communication between the thoracic cavity and outside air, producing a sucking chest wound. If left untreated, an open chest wound can progress to tension pneumothorax — a rapidly fatal condition where air accumulates in the pleural space, compressing the heart and collapsing the lung. CoTCCC guidelines recommend immediate application of a vented chest seal (such as the HyFin Vent) as the first-line intervention for open chest wounds.

How does the wearable format improve chest seal training over static trainers?

A static torso trainer sits on a table with a fixed, non-moving chest surface. The wearable format puts the training surface on a live student partner who breathes, moves, and responds realistically. This forces the responder student to manage chest seal placement on a moving, curved thoracic surface while the 'casualty' partner may be sitting, slumped, or supine — replicating the physical challenge of real chest wound management. The breathing movement of the partner also tests whether the seal maintains adhesion during chest excursion.

Which chest seals are compatible with this training system?

The system is compatible with all standard vented and non-vented occlusive chest seals including the HyFin Vent Chest Seal (CoTCCC-recommended), HyFin Compact Vent, Halo Chest Seal, Bolin Chest Seal, and other adhesive occlusive seals. Training programs that want to practice with the exact operational device can use live HyFin Vent Chest Seals. Is the bleeding feedback on the Chest Seal Training System visible?

Yes. Training blood (or colored water) flows through the simulated wound sites at the chest surface and stops flowing when a chest seal is correctly applied with complete circumferential occlusion. Incomplete sealing — partial coverage, air gaps, or inadequate adhesion — allows continued flow, providing immediate visible feedback that the seal application needs to be corrected. This binary feedback is as clinically meaningful for chest seal training as the bleeding-stops feedback is for tourniquet training.

What skin tones are available for the TrueClot Chest Seal Application Training System?

The system is available in Light skin tone (SKU 30-0908-L-1) and Dark skin tone (SKU 30-0908-L-2). Two skin tone options allow training programs to practice chest wound identification and seal placement across the range of patient presentations trainees will encounter, building the visual recognition skills needed to confidently identify and treat open chest wounds regardless of patient skin tone.
