What It Is
The NIO® device provides rapid vascular access when peripheral IV cannulation is not possible — but insertion is only half the equation. A properly secured IO catheter with a functional extension set and stopcock is required to deliver medications, fluids, and blood products effectively. The Go IO Start Kit provides this complete post-insertion assembly in a single pre-packaged sterile kit.
The fixation dressing anchors the device to resist rotational movement or dislodgment during patient movement, CASEVAC, or airway management. The NeedleVISE™ sharps block captures and contains the exposed needle tip after removal, reducing needlestick hazard. The IV extension set with a 90° connector addresses a geometry constraint of IO access — the hub sits close to the bone surface with limited clearance — routing tubing away from the site without leverage forces on the hub, while the three-way stopcock enables multiple access ports through the same site.
Safeguard recommends the Go IO kit with every NIO insertion. Stocking the NIO device without it leaves the provider without the tools to convert IO access into a functional, secured line.
