HME Filter (Case of 10)

A Heat and Moisture Exchange filter for the SAVe II and SAVe II+ ventilators (SKU E32113-10). Preserves airway humidity during mechanical ventilation — preventing mucosal drying and secretion retention. Sold in cases of 10 for resupply.

What is the HME Filter? A passive Heat and Moisture Exchanger that captures heat and moisture from the patient’s exhaled breath and returns it on the next inspiration — substituting for the upper airway’s natural conditioning function that mechanical ventilation bypasses. It is the OEM-specified filter for the SAVe II family and requires no external heat or humidity source.

Key Specifications

SKU E32113-10
Quantity Case of 10
Type Passive HME (Heat and Moisture Exchanger)
Function Captures exhaled heat and moisture; returns on next inspiration
Compatible With SAVe II and SAVe II+ ventilators
Use Condition When O₂ reservoir is NOT connected; cannot be used simultaneously with reservoir
Use Type Single-patient use

Use Cases

  • Room-Air Ventilation Airway Protection: Applied during room-air ventilation (no supplemental O₂ via reservoir) to provide passive humidification of the ventilated airway and prevent complications from breathing dry medical-grade air or ambient air through a mechanical circuit.
  • Prolonged Field Care (PFC) Ventilation: Used in prolonged field care scenarios where a patient must remain on the SAVe II+ for an extended period without supplemental O₂ — the HME filter prevents airway drying during extended ventilation runs.
  • Transport Ventilation: Applied during CASEVAC and MEDEVAC transport when supplemental O₂ is depleted or unavailable and the patient must be ventilated on room air during the transport leg.
  • Resupply Bundle Matching: The case-of-10 matches the 10-patient SAVe II+ Starter Bundle resupply cycle, allowing procurement of HME filters and the bundle in matching quantities.
  • Pediatric and Geriatric Ventilation: HME filtration is especially important for pediatric and elderly ventilated patients who are more susceptible to complications from airway drying. The filter provides an additional protection layer during SAVe II+ use across these populations.

HME Filter vs O₂ Reservoir vs Noise Attenuator: SAVe II+ Intake Port Accessory Selection

  • HME Filter (E32113-10): Use for passive airway humidification and particulate filtration when supplemental O₂ is not required. Single-patient use. Connects to air intake port.
  • O₂ Reservoir (F20072-10): Use when supplemental oxygen delivery is required. Connects to the same air intake port — cannot be used simultaneously with HME filter.
  • Noise Attenuator (M41112-5): Use when neither O₂ supplementation nor HME filtration is needed and noise management is the priority. Mutually exclusive with both reservoir and HME filter.
  • Clinical Decision Rule: O₂ reservoir takes priority when patient requires supplemental oxygen. When room-air ventilation is in use, HME filter provides airway protection. Noise attenuator is used only when the other two are not needed.
  • Single-Use vs Reusable: HME filter is single-patient use; O₂ reservoir is reusable (follow reprocessing protocol); noise attenuator is reusable.
