The BRIK™ Concept: Size Is No Longer an Excuse

BRIK — Bleed Resource Individual Kit — is a MED-TAC International original concept built on a single principle: preparedness capability should not require a large pouch or a dedicated medical bag. Uncontrolled external hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in both tactical trauma and civilian mass casualty events. The application of a tourniquet or pressure bandage within the first few minutes of injury is life-saving. Yet most people — even those in tactical and law enforcement roles — do not carry the tools to perform these interventions because standard IFAK pouches are too large to carry outside of a dedicated gear setup.

The BRIK Micro solves this by compressing a functional hemorrhage control kit into a 3.5 × 3 × 1.75 inch footprint. At approximately 10 oz, it mounts flat on a plate carrier, clips to a gun belt, slides into an EDC bag's front pocket, or attaches to the shoulder strap of a backpack. The Micro form factor reaches scenarios where no other IFAK would be present — a plainclothes officer, a civilian with basic trauma training, a runner, a vehicle driver. When those situations produce a hemorrhagic emergency, having something on your person is the difference between intervention and watching someone bleed.

The four-tier configuration structure means every user can calibrate their capability level: the Solo Pouch for the medic who has their preferred supplies; the Essentials Kit for the trained layperson or civilian first responder; and the PRO Kit with SOF-T-W for the operator who wants the full CoTCCC-recommended tourniquet capability at micro scale.

Color Selection: Tactical Considerations

The Red variant deserves specific note: it is the fastest visually identifiable color in an emergency, and has been specifically adopted by school resource officers, corporate security teams, and building safety coordinators who want any person on scene to be able to find the medical kit immediately without training or signage. In mass casualty and active shooter environments, the seconds saved finding a visible red kit versus searching for a concealed black one have direct patient outcome implications.
