The Level IIIA soft armor panels in the Masada Backpack Vest are integrated into front, back, and side panels that unfold from the pack's dedicated armor compartment in approximately 2 seconds. The resulting vest provides genuine NIJ 0101.06 IIIA protection around the full torso — a significant protection upgrade over a panel-only design that only protects the back when worn as a backpack. The Cordura 500D exterior is durable, weather-resistant, and visually indistinguishable from a standard tactical backpack, making the system appropriate for school, office, travel, and urban carry environments.
For users who require rifle-threat protection, the Masada Backpack Vest is available with optional Level III+ polyethylene hard armor plate upgrades — one plate (MEDTAC0948) for front coverage, or two plates (MEDTAC0949) for front and back coverage. Level III+ polyethylene plates stop common rifle calibers including 5.56mm M193 and 7.62×39mm in addition to all handgun threats stopped by the base IIIA panels.
