Product Overview

Uncontrolled hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable death from traumatic injury. The MED-TAC Massive Bleed Pack pairs two of the most operationally proven tools for immediate bleed intervention: Celox Rapid hemostatic gauze for wound packing and a Safeguard Medical Emergency Trauma Bandage for pressure application and wound coverage.

Celox Rapid uses chitosan — a naturally derived polymer that actively binds to red blood cells and forms a strong gel clot independent of the body's normal coagulation cascade. Unlike factor-dependent hemostatic agents, Celox Rapid works even in hypothermic and hemodiluted blood states — the precise physiological conditions that occur in severe trauma patients. The z-fold format allows easy packing into deep penetrating or junctional wounds where direct pressure alone is insufficient. CoTCCC-recommended hemostatic gauze based on chitosan chemistry has supported this agent class for extremity and wound-packing applications.

The Safeguard Medical 4" Emergency Trauma Bandage (formerly PerSys Medical ETB) provides the pressure dressing component of this two-step hemorrhage control sequence. Featuring an integrated pressure bar and elastic retention wrap, the ETB allows single-handed application that delivers consistent, adjustable compression to the wound site. Its compact vacuum-sealed packaging keeps the dressing sterile and field-ready. Together, these two items give any responder — military, law enforcement, EMS, or prepared civilian — an immediate ability to pack and secure severe bleeding before definitive care arrives.

Application Sequence

  1. Expose the wound — cut away clothing to identify and access the bleeding site.
  2. Pack with Celox Rapid — open the z-fold gauze and pack directly into the wound cavity, applying firm direct pressure for a minimum of 3 minutes to allow the chitosan matrix to form a stable clot.
  3. Apply the ETB — place the pressure bar over the packed wound, wrap the elastic bandage tightly to maintain pressure, and secure with the built-in clip.
  4. Mark and monitor — note application time and transfer care to EMS or higher-level providers.
