PRODUCT INFORMATION

The TQ-RAM by Safeguard Medical is a compact, hands-freeing pressure point device designed to provide targeted compression at junctional and compressible wound sites not amenable to conventional tourniquet application. Weighing just 0.62 oz, it functions as an accessory to the TMT Tourniquet — securing over wound packing or against arterial pressure points to maintain hemostasis while the responder attends to other injuries. Made in the USA. Single-patient use.

Product Overview

Conventional tourniquets are among the most effective hemorrhage control tools available — but they are anatomically constrained to the extremities. Wounds in the inguinal (groin), axillary (armpit), and other junctional regions are among the most lethal in penetrating trauma, precisely because no standard tourniquet can be placed above them. The TQ-RAM was purpose-built to address this gap. By integrating with the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet's strap, the TQ-RAM's arched dome delivers concentrated, sustained compression directly over a packed wound or arterial pressure point — freeing the responder's hands to perform airway management, IV access, or treat additional casualties simultaneously.

At 0.62 oz and 4.0" × 2.5", the TQ-RAM adds negligible bulk to any trauma kit or IFAK. Its arched dome geometry is specifically engineered to focus pressure inward to the wound bed rather than distributing it broadly as a flat pad would, providing the equivalent of directed manual pressure without continuous hand engagement. Hemostatic gauze products such as Combat Gauze® and Celox® Gauze require 1–3 minutes of sustained manual pressure to achieve hemostasis — in a multi-casualty or active-threat scenario, this can be an unacceptable demand on a single responder. The TQ-RAM enables the medic or first responder to maintain that pressure continuously while addressing other life threats.

The TQ-RAM is sold as a standalone device, but its full utility is realized when used alongside the Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet (TMT). Together, the pair form a comprehensive hemorrhage control system capable of addressing both extremity and junctional bleeds with a combined kit weight under 3.6 oz. For hemostatic wound packing that pairs with the TQ-RAM, explore the hemostatic agents collection at MED-TAC International.

How to Use the TQ-RAM

  1. Pack the wound with hemostatic gauze or standard gauze and achieve initial manual hemostasis if possible.
  2. Position the TQ-RAM arched dome directly over the packed wound or at the arterial pressure point (e.g., femoral artery in the inguinal crease).
  3. Route the TMT strap around the patient's pelvis or body region such that the strap overlies the TQ-RAM dome.
  4. Tighten the TMT strap to apply firm, sustained downward pressure through the TQ-RAM dome onto the wound.
  5. Verify hemostasis and monitor continuously — re-tighten the TMT as needed. Document wound packing and application time.

Clinical Context

Junctional hemorrhage — from wounds in the groin, armpit, or neck — accounts for a disproportionate share of combat and trauma fatalities. Research cited in Journal of Trauma (2013) identified junctional wounds as responsible for up to 19% of potentially survivable combat deaths. The CoTCCC guidelines address junctional hemorrhage through dedicated junctional tourniquet devices for pelvic/groin wounds; the TQ-RAM fills the same role at a fraction of the cost and weight, particularly when used by a responder who already carries the TMT. For mass casualty or multi-patient scenarios, carrying multiple TQ-RAMs alongside TMTs can substantially expand a responder's hemorrhage control capacity.
