Product Overview
Mechanical ventilation bypasses the upper airway's natural humidification system — the nose and nasopharynx that normally warm and humidify inspired air before it reaches the lower airway. In ventilated patients, particularly during extended prehospital transport or field hospital operations, the absence of humidification leads to progressive drying of the airway mucosa, thickening of secretions, and increased risk of airway obstruction and ventilator-associated complications. Heat and Moisture Exchange (HME) filters address this problem passively: they capture the heat and moisture exhaled by the patient and return it to the next inspired breath, effectively substituting for the upper airway's natural conditioning function.
