TacMed Basic Endotracheal Kit

A complete orotracheal-intubation kit with bougie and CO₂ confirmation — advanced airway providers only.

What is the TacMed Basic Endotracheal Kit? A complete endotracheal-intubation kit (SKU MEDTAC0737) assembled by Tactical Medical Solutions for advanced airway providers performing orotracheal intubation. Contents: ET tubes size 6 (cuffed), 7, and 8; a 15Fr bougie introducer; Grip-ET with bite block; 10Fr Flexi-Slip stylet; 3× Surgilube; 10cc Luer-Lock syringe; Easy Cap CO₂ detector; and 4 pair Blackmaxx gloves (Large). Advanced provider only — endotracheal intubation requires advanced airway training and medical-director authorization.

Provider scope — endotracheal intubation

Endotracheal intubation requires advanced airway training, hands-on simulation, and medical-director authorization. CoTCCC does not recommend prehospital RSI; ETI without RSI is appropriate only for deeply comatose patients with absent airway reflexes. This page describes the kit and its contents and is not a substitute for accredited training, and is not a procedural how-to.

What It Is

The TacMed™ Basic Endotracheal Kit consolidates the essential components for orotracheal intubation into one pre-assembled kit — removing the need to source items separately and reducing the risk of a missing item when definitive airway management is required. It reflects Tactical Medical Solutions' approach to pre-assembling clinically appropriate component sets for real operational environments.

Three ET tube sizes (6 cuffed, 7, and 8) cover the range of adult tracheal anatomy — size 6 cuffed for smaller adult airways, size 7 as a common first-line adult choice, and size 8 for larger airways — so a tube selection in the field doesn't deplete the kit. The 15Fr bougie introducer is a key difficult-airway adjunct: when laryngoscopy yields a Grade III or IV view and the tracheal opening can't be directly visualized, the bougie supports tube placement by feel, improving first-pass success.

The Easy Cap colorimetric CO₂ detector gives immediate placement confirmation — correct endotracheal placement produces a color change with each breath cycle, while esophageal placement produces no colorimetric response. Colorimetric ETCO₂ is the standard for field confirmation when waveform capnography is unavailable. The Grip-ET bite block protects the tube from being occluded, removing the need for a separate bite block or oral airway for tube protection.

TCCC context — ETI without RSI

CoTCCC does not recommend RSI in the prehospital tactical environment. Endotracheal intubation without RSI is appropriate only for deeply comatose patients (GCS ≤8 with absent airway reflexes) — typically TACEVAC-level care with highly trained special-operations providers. In civilian EMS, ETI with this kit requires advanced paramedic-level training, medical-director protocol authorization, and ideally video laryngoscopy. See the full airway management collection.

See the full airway management collection for surgical-airway kits, supraglottic airways, and video laryngoscopy equipment.

USE CASES — BASIC ENDOTRACHEAL KIT

  • Definitive airway management: ET tubes in sizes 6, 7, and 8 (cuffed) cover adult intubation across patient anatomies — used when supraglottic or nasopharyngeal airways are insufficient.
  • Difficult airway / bougie-assisted intubation: 15FR ET tube introducer (bougie) enables intubation when direct visualization of the cords is incomplete — standard difficult-airway technique.
  • Tube confirmation and CO2 monitoring: Easy Cap colorimetric CO2 detector confirms endotracheal placement vs. esophageal intubation — a critical post-intubation verification step.
  • Tube securing and positioning: Grip-ET with bite block secures the ET tube at the corner of the mouth and prevents biting, maintaining patent airway in semiconscious patients.
  • Flexible tube guidance: 10FR Flexi-Slip Stylet provides controlled directionality for tube advancement through the glottic opening.

BASIC ENDOTRACHEAL KIT VS. AIRWAY ALTERNATIVES

  • BEK vs. Basic Airway Kit: The BEK is for ET intubation (definitive airway); the BAK provides nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, and supraglottic airway (NPA, OPA, King LTD) without ET capability. Use BAK for non-intubation airway; BEK when definitive airway is required.
  • BEK vs. King LT-D (supraglottic): ET intubation via BEK is more invasive and requires higher skill level than King LTD; ET provides a definitively sealed and secured airway and is preferred for extended patient care.
  • BEK vs. Surgical Airway Kits: BEK addresses orotracheal intubation. Surgical airway (cric) kits address patients where oral/nasal intubation is anatomically impossible. They are sequential escalation options, not alternatives.
  • BEK multi-size vs. single-size kits: The TacMed BEK includes sizes 6, 7, and 8 in a single kit, eliminating the need to stock separate tube sizes for different patient populations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What does the TacMed Basic Endotracheal Kit contain?

A: The BEK contains: ET Tubes in sizes 6, 7, and 8 (cuffed); an ET Tube Introducer (Bougie) 15FR; a Grip-ET with Bite Block; a Flexi-Slip Stylet 10FR; 3× Surgilube (sterile lubricant jelly); a 10CC LL Syringe; an Easy Cap CO2 Detector; and 4 PR Blackmaxx Gloves (Large).

Q: Who should carry the TacMed Basic Endotracheal Kit?

A: The BEK is designed for advanced providers — paramedics, flight medics, tactical EMS, physicians, and military medical officers — with intubation training. ET intubation requires hands-on competency and regular skills maintenance.

Q: Why does the kit include three ET tube sizes?

A: Adult patients vary in anatomy. Sizes 6, 7, and 8 cover the majority of adult intubations; having all three in a single kit eliminates the risk of grabbing the wrong-size tube under stress or from an incompletely stocked bag.

Q: What does the Easy Cap CO2 detector do?

A: The Easy Cap is a colorimetric end-tidal CO2 detector. It changes color in the presence of CO2 from exhaled air — yellow = CO2 present (tracheal placement), purple = no CO2 (esophageal placement). It is a primary confirmation tool when waveform capnography is unavailable.

Q: What is the SKU for the TacMed Basic Endotracheal Kit?

A: SKU: BEK. Price: $56.50 direct from Tactical Medical Solutions (tacmedsolutions.com).
