The L-FAK is designed for operators, vehicle crews, and field personnel who want trauma supplies accessible at the lumbar position — distinct from vest or belt carry. The 420-denier nylon inner carrier opens with a single pull-tab for rapid one-handed access, while the 500-denier exterior carrier accepts MOLLE/PALS attachment for modular mounting to rigs, plate carrier hip belts, or standalone lumbar rigs.

The Basic configuration provides two NAR Wound Packing Gauze rolls, a HyFin® Compact Chest Seal Twin Pack, a 4 in. ETD™ Mini Dressing, and two pairs of Bear Claw gloves — an efficient hemorrhage control and chest wound loadout without a tourniquet. The Basic with Combat Gauze adds CoTCCC-recommended Combat Gauze® Z-Fold hemostatic dressing. The Advanced variant expands supplies further for enhanced capability.

Important: The L-FAK does not include a tourniquet. NAR designs this kit to pair with a separate C-A-T® tourniquet and dedicated tourniquet holder, keeping the limb tourniquet in a faster, more accessible position while the L-FAK carries the bulk of wound management and respiratory supplies.

Does the Lumbar First Aid Kit include a tourniquet?

No. The NAR Lumbar First Aid Kit (L-FAK) is intentionally designed without an integrated tourniquet. NAR recommends pairing it with a separate C-A-T® tourniquet and dedicated tourniquet holder, sold separately. This design philosophy keeps the tourniquet in a faster-access dedicated holder while the L-FAK carries wound management supplies.

What is the advantage of lumbar carry versus vest carry for an IFAK?

Lumbar carry positions the medical kit at the small of the back or waist — accessible without removing a plate carrier or body armor, especially during vehicle operations or in confined spaces. Some operators prefer lumbar carry because the kit is out of the way during shooting positions and still reachable by either hand. The L-FAK's pull-tab inner carrier allows rapid one-handed access in this orientation.

What is the difference between the Basic and Advanced L-FAK configurations?

The Basic includes 2 NAR Wound Packing Gauze rolls, HyFin® Compact Chest Seal Twin Pack, 4 in. ETD™ Mini Dressing, and 2 pairs of Bear Claw gloves. Basic with Combat Gauze adds a CoTCCC-recommended QuikClot® Combat Gauze Z-Fold hemostatic dressing. Does the L-FAK address the MARCH protocol?

The L-FAK Basic covers Massive Hemorrhage (wound packing gauze, ETD™) and Respiration (HyFin® Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack). Combat Gauze variants add CoTCCC-recommended hemostatic capability. Tourniquet (M), Airway (A), and Hypothermia (H) supplies require separate carry. The L-FAK is designed as a complement to a dedicated tourniquet holder, not a standalone MARCH kit.
