The SWAT-T™ Tourniquet by Safeguard Medical is a multi-function elastic polyisoprene device that functions as a tourniquet, pressure dressing, and elastic bandage using the Stretch, Wrap, And Tuck (SWAT) method. At 4 oz and a flat-folded footprint of 4.5" × 3", it is lightweight and portable enough for pocket carry, effective on small limbs (children, K9s), and capable of high inguinal and axillary application where rigid tourniquets cannot reach. Available in Black and Orange. Sold under Safeguard Medical's MARCH RAMPART color-coded packaging system.

Product Overview
The SWAT-T™ was developed by a former USAF Pararescue Journeyman (PJ) with 14 years of operational medicine experience, responding to the recognized gap between conventional windlass tourniquets and junctional/pediatric hemorrhage scenarios. Its Stretch, Wrap, And Tuck mechanism leverages the elastic properties of polyisoprene to create circumferential compression without a rigid body, windlass rod, or ratchet — enabling application at wound sites that no rigid tourniquet can reach, including high inguinal (groin), axillary (armpit), and across the torso for abdominal stabilization. Instructions for use — including the diamond pressure indicator pattern — are printed directly on the device, enabling correct application with no prior training.
The diamond indicator pattern is the SWAT-T's most distinctive usability feature: when the band is stretched to the correct occlusive tension, the printed diamonds on the band elongate and change shape, providing an immediate visual confirmation that sufficient pressure has been applied. This eliminates the guesswork that accompanies improvised pressure wraps and reduces the risk of under-application on small or irregularly shaped limbs. The same elastic design makes the SWAT-T effective on pediatric limbs and working K9 legs — limb geometries that standard adult tourniquets cannot safely occlude. Comparative studies, including a 2019 randomized trial (McCarty et al.) published following B-Con training, have included the SWAT-T as one of the primary tourniquet types evaluated for lay-responder efficacy.
Beyond its tourniquet function, the SWAT-T serves as a pressure dressing (wrap over hemostatic packing to maintain compression) and as an elastic bandage for joint stabilization, splinting, and pelvic support. This versatility makes it an extremely space-efficient addition to any trauma kit: a single SWAT-T replaces what would otherwise require three separate items. MED-TAC International stocks the SWAT-T in both Black (tactical) and Orange (EMS/hi-viz) under Safeguard Medical's MARCH RAMPART color-coded supply system. For dedicated extremity tourniquet with CoTCCC recommendation, pair with the C-A-T® Gen 7 or SOF-T®.
How to Apply (Tourniquet Mode)
- Position the SWAT-T at the wound site — for extremity hemorrhage, place 2–3 inches above the wound; for high inguinal or axillary bleeds, position directly over the packed wound.
- Begin wrapping the elastic band around the limb or body part, stretching it significantly as you wrap.
- Continue wrapping until the diamond pattern on the band stretches into an elongated shape — this confirms occlusive pressure has been achieved.
- Tuck the free end of the band under the wrapped layers to secure in place (no clips, locks, or windlass required).
- Monitor continuously for maintained hemostasis; if bleeding resumes, re-wrap with greater stretch tension.
Comparison Context
The SWAT-T complements rather than replaces CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquets. For extremity arterial hemorrhage, a windlass device such as the C-A-T® Gen 7 or SOF-T® is the primary recommended intervention. The SWAT-T excels as a secondary device, addressing anatomical locations where rigid tourniquets fail, providing pediatric/K9 capability, and adding pressure-dressing/elastic-bandage versatility to a kit at minimal weight and cost. For large-scale public-access bleeding control kits, the SWAT-T is a cost-effective choice for kits likely to encounter pediatric patients or diverse wound patterns.
