Pouch Construction
The BRIK Concept
BRIK — Bleed Resource Individual Kit — is a MED-TAC original built on one principle: preparedness shouldn't require a large pouch or a dedicated medical bag. Uncontrolled external hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in tactical trauma and civilian mass-casualty events, and a tourniquet or pressure bandage applied in the first few minutes is life-saving. Yet most people — even in tactical and LE roles — don't carry the tools, because standard IFAK pouches are too large to carry outside a dedicated gear setup.
The BRIK Micro compresses a functional hemorrhage-control kit into a 3.5 × 3 × 1.75 inch footprint. At ~10 oz it mounts flat on a plate carrier, clips to a gun belt, slides into an EDC bag pocket, or rides on a backpack strap — reaching scenarios where no other IFAK would be present. The four-tier structure lets every user calibrate capability: Solo Pouch for the medic with preferred supplies; Essentials for the trained layperson; PRO with SOF-T-W for the operator who wants full CoTCCC-recommended tourniquet capability at micro scale.
Color Selection
| Color | Primary Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Black | LE, plainclothes, EDC, concealed carry | Blends with black duty gear and concealed setups |
| Olive Drab | Military, outdoor, woodland | Matches OD plate carriers and field gear |
| Red | School resource officers, building safety, EMS, first-aid stations | High-visibility for instant identification |
| Multicam | Military, SOF, mixed-terrain | Standard Multicam for operational environments |
The Red variant is the fastest visually identifiable color in an emergency — adopted by school resource officers, corporate security, and building safety coordinators so any person on scene can find the medical kit immediately. In mass-casualty and active-threat environments, seconds saved finding a visible red kit versus a concealed black one have direct patient-outcome implications.
Micro vs. Standard
| Feature | BRIK™ Micro | BRIK™ Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | 3.5" × 3" × 1.75" | Larger footprint |
| Weight | ~10 oz | Greater (larger capacity) |
| Primary Role | EDC, compact tactical, plainclothes, minimum capability | Full IFAK role, dedicated medical pouch |
| Tourniquet (PRO) | SOF-T-W (CoTCCC-recommended) | Full-size tourniquet options |
| Best For | EDC, supplemental carry, compact op | Primary IFAK, dedicated medical pouch |
Many operators carry both: the Micro on-person for always-available minimum capability and the BRIK Standard on a plate carrier or in a medical bag for full IFAK capability. See the full IFAK Kits & First Aid collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does BRIK stand for?
Bleed Resource Individual Kit — a MED-TAC concept focused on effective hemorrhage-control capability in the smallest individual carry format. The Micro is the smallest in the line.
What are the dimensions and weight?
3.5" L × 3" W × 1.75" D, ~10 oz — compatible with cargo pockets, gun-belt attachment, EDC bag front pockets, and plate-carrier admin pouches.
Is it Berry compliant?
Yes — 100% Berry compliant and Made in the USA, using Berry-compliant 1000D Squadron Nylon Laminate throughout, eligible for military and federal purchase under domestic-sourcing requirements.
What tourniquet is in the PRO Kit?
The SOF® Tactical Tourniquet Wide (SOF-T-W) — a CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquet for extremity hemorrhage control.
Essentials Kit vs. PRO Kit?
Essentials provides the baseline hemorrhage-control and basic first-aid supplies. PRO includes all Essentials items plus the BRIK™ BRD, SOF-T tourniquet, QuikClot® rolled gauze, and One Wrap retention strap — and the SOF-T-W (CoTCCC-recommended).
How does it mount?
Three options: rear MOLLE webbing for plate carriers, chest rigs, and belt rigs; a direct belt loop; and a rear webbing loop — letting one pouch transition between tactical gear, duty belt, and EDC without modification.
Why choose Red?
Red is optimized for environments where rapid visual identification of medical supplies is critical — schools, offices, venues — and can be found and accessed by any trained bystander in seconds. For overt first-responder and building-safety roles, it provides a meaningful operational advantage.
Is this appropriate for civilians without medical training?
The Essentials and PRO configurations are designed for trained responders; the SWAT-T™ in the Essentials Kit is more intuitive for minimally trained users. Regardless of configuration, MED-TAC strongly recommends obtaining accredited hemorrhage-control training before carrying and relying on any trauma kit — training is the force multiplier, the kit provides the tools.
