Why CELOX-A
Granules at the Bleeding Source
The syringe tip delivers 6 grams of chitosan granules directly to the bleeding source through the wound entry — no wound excavation required. Granules reach depths impossible to achieve with gauze packing through small-caliber entry wounds.
Works Against Strong Blood Flow
The high-speed plunger overcomes blood flow resistance, driving granules into the wound track even during active hemorrhage. Granules distribute throughout the wound channel and begin gelling on contact.
No Wound Excavation Needed
CELOX-A requires no manipulation of the wound channel — the applicator tip enters through the existing track. No painful, time-consuming widening of the entry required.
Proven Chitosan Mechanism
Same CELOX chitosan granules proven in controlled in-vivo trials to stop major arterial bleeding within 3 minutes. Effective in blood cooled to 56°F and in heparinized blood.
Compact, Low-Profile Packaging
At 1.2 oz and a slim 4" × 8.5" × 0.75" profile, CELOX-A integrates into existing IFAKs, trauma kits, and vest pouches. MARCH protocol color-coded for rapid identification under stress.
NSN-Listed, TAA Compliant
NSN 6510-01-623-9943 and TAA compliant — procurable through government supply channels and meets Trade Agreement Act requirements for U.S. government procurement.
Who Uses CELOX-A
- Special Operations Medics (18D) — Treating narrow-entry GSWs and blast fragment wounds in austere environments
- Combat Life Savers — Non-medical military personnel treating penetrating wounds without advanced wound management techniques
- Tactical EMS & Paramedics — Pre-hospital providers treating penetrating trauma where standard gauze packing cannot reach the bleeding source
- Law Enforcement Tactical Teams — SWAT and tactical officers who encounter GSWs and need a tool that delivers hemostatic agent directly to the injury channel
- Tactical Medicine Training — Programs teaching TCCC/TECC protocols for penetrating wound management

Compliance Note: CELOX-A is a hemostatic medical device indicated for narrow penetrating wounds in the pre-hospital setting. Contains chitosan from shellfish — purified; allergy studies show no adverse reactions. For external use only by trained emergency responders. Do not use in abdominal wounds or body cavities. Do not refill. Single-patient use. Remove granule residuals within 24 hours at a medical facility.
When to Choose CELOX-A
- Small-Caliber Gunshot Wounds — Bullet entry wounds where the channel diameter is too narrow for gauze — the applicator tip reaches the bleeding source without wound manipulation.
- Stab and Puncture Wounds with Deep Tracks — Knife injuries and penetrating fragment wounds where the depth makes traditional gauze packing ineffective.
- Active Hemorrhage Under Pressure — When blood flow is strong enough to prevent gauze from staying in place — the applicator’s plunger drives granules past blood resistance directly to the injury site.
- Blast Fragment & Shrapnel Tracks — Irregular, narrow channels from explosive fragments in combat and mass-casualty incidents requiring rapid hemostatic delivery.
CELOX-A vs. Alternatives
- vs. CELOX Rapid Ribbon (1"×5ft) — CELOX-A injects granules through an applicator tip — ideal for the narrowest tracks where even a 1" ribbon cannot be packed. Use CELOX-A for the smallest entry wounds; Rapid Ribbon when the track diameter allows ribbon insertion.
- vs. CELOX Rapid Gauze (3"×5ft) — CELOX Rapid is for open or accessible wound cavities that accommodate gauze packing. CELOX-A is for narrow-channel penetrating wounds. In practice, carry both: CELOX-A for the wound track, CELOX Rapid to cover the external wound and apply compression.
- vs. Combat Gauze LE — Combat Gauze requires accessible wound geometry for effective packing. CELOX-A works where gauze cannot — and its cascade-independent chitosan mechanism provides an additional advantage in coagulopathic patients.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use the CELOX-A applicator?
Insert the tip directly into the wound track. Press the plunger firmly to inject 6 grams of chitosan granules into the wound. Remove the applicator. Cover the wound entry with gauze above skin level. Apply firm direct pressure for 5 minutes. If bleeding persists, apply pressure for an additional 5 minutes.
Can CELOX-A be used in abdominal or chest wounds?
No. CELOX-A is contraindicated for abdominal wounds and body cavity wounds. It is indicated for external narrow penetrating wounds only — extremities, torso exterior, neck, and junctional areas where direct compression can be applied.
How are CELOX-A granules removed at the hospital?
Hospital personnel remove granule residuals within 24 hours by physical extraction of any gel clot, followed by thorough sterile saline irrigation. The chitosan gel dissolves readily with saline.
Can CELOX-A be refilled or reused?
No. CELOX-A is a single-patient use device only. Do not refill or reuse — reuse could result in cross-infection risk and reduced hemostatic performance. Multiple applicators may be used on the same patient if needed (one per wound track).
