Product Overview

A surgical cricothyrotomy is the airway rescue procedure of last resort — performed when all other airway management techniques have failed and the patient faces imminent hypoxic death. The Curaplex® Emergency Surgical Cricothyrotomy Kit consolidates every required component in a single sterile package, eliminating the need for improvised assembly under pressure. The 6.5mm cuffed ET tube size is appropriate for both adult male and female patients, while the included tracheal dilator and trach hook allow clinicians to open and hold the cricothyroid membrane incision using the standard Rapid Four-Step Technique or the Bougie-Assisted method.

The disposable scalpel paired with the 12mL Luer-lock syringe (for cuff inflation confirmation) ensures that no additional equipment needs to be drawn from a crash cart or airway bag. The kit is packaged in a sealed plastic bag for easy inclusion in advanced airway management kits, physician emergency bags, flight medic packs, or tactical medic loadouts. Having a dedicated surgical airway kit preplanned and immediately accessible is a recognized component of difficult airway management protocols per ACEP and advanced TCCC guidelines.

Clinical Context

Surgical cricothyrotomy is indicated in the cannot-intubate, cannot-oxygenate (CICO) scenario — an event estimated to occur in approximately 1 in 50,000 intubations in the general population but at significantly higher rates in trauma settings with facial or airway injury. The procedure involves a horizontal incision through the cricothyroid membrane, dilation, and insertion of a cuffed tube to establish ventilation. With the Curaplex kit's dedicated trach hook and dilator, the procedure can be completed in 30–90 seconds by trained clinicians.
