Customer-ready pre-packaged kits. Used for the collection, and transportation, of clinical specimens which are to be tested for viruses from the collection site to the testing laboratory.
Contains
- one 3ml (1) labeled screw-cap tube of non-propagating viral transport medium designed for transport of clinical specimens
- and a peel pouch containing one or two specimen collection swabs
Swabs are comprised of a solid molded plastic shaft and the tip is coated with short Nylon® fibers which are arranged in a perpendicular fashion to the shaft.
Our conventional viral transport medium is mainly composed of modified Hank's balanced salt solution, bovine serum albumin, amino acids and glucose. The pH is buffered with a HEPES buffer. Phenol red is used to indicate pH.. Gentamicin and amphotericin B are incorporated into the medium to inhibit competing bacteria and yeast. The medium is isotonic and non-toxic.
After collecting specimens using the swab, the swab is then put into the preservation tube for storage and transportation.
