Does the ETAK include a tourniquet?
No. The ETAK is intentionally designed without an integrated tourniquet compartment. It pairs with a separate NAR RIGID tourniquet holder (sold separately), which attaches to the ETAK's MOLLE exterior or adjacent on a belt. This design philosophy allows more interior space for dressings, gauze, and chest seals while keeping the tourniquet in a dedicated, faster-access position. If you need a kit with a built-in tourniquet, consider the NAR M-FAK, TORK, or ROO M-FAK.
What is the ETAK's tear-away back panel and when is it useful?
The tear-away back panel allows the ETAK's back surface — which includes the MOLLE attachment — to be rapidly separated from the main pouch body. This converts the kit from a mounted configuration to a flat, open carry system with full bilateral access to all contents. It is useful in confined spaces (vehicle interiors, narrow corridors), when treating a casualty in a prone position, or when handing the kit's contents directly to a self-treating casualty.
What level of care does the ETAK Advanced configuration provide?
The ETAK Advanced configuration includes Combat Gauze® LE hemostatic dressing (for wound packing), HyFin® Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack (for open chest wounds), NAR Wound Packing Gauze, 4 in. Mini ETD™ (for pressure dressing), nitrile gloves, and a permanent marker. This addresses Massive Hemorrhage (M) and Respiration (R) phases of the MARCH protocol. Airway supplies (NPA) would need to be carried separately for full MARCH coverage.
How does the ETAK differ from the Mini-TAK?
Both the ETAK and Mini-TAK are compact IFAKs designed to pair with a separate tourniquet holder. The ETAK is slightly larger (5.75×4×1.75 in., 0.65 lb) and includes a HyFin® Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack in all configurations — making it more complete for thoracic injury. The Mini-TAK (6×3×2.5 in., 2.13 lb) is NAR's smallest platform and includes trauma shears. Choose the ETAK when chest seal capability in every configuration is a priority.
What NAR tourniquet holder is the ETAK designed to pair with?
The ETAK is designed to pair with North American Rescue's RIGID series tourniquet holders — rigid plastic holders that mount to MOLLE webbing adjacent to the ETAK and secure a C-A-T® or similar tourniquet for rapid one-handed deployment. This combination provides faster tourniquet access than IFAKs with internal TQ pouches while still housing the full trauma kit in a single small footprint.
Does the ETAK contain CoTCCC-recommended items?
Yes. The ETAK includes CoTCCC-recommended C-A-T® tourniquet and HyFin® Vent Chest Seal as primary components. The kit is structured around MARCH algorithm priorities, addressing massive hemorrhage, airway, and respiration in a single individual carry.
What is the difference between ETAK and a standard IFAK?
The ETAK (Enhanced Trauma Aid Kit) includes provider-scope capability beyond a standard IFAK — specifically ARS® needle decompression and a nasopharyngeal airway. A standard IFAK (C-A-T® + ETD + chest seal) addresses self-aid and buddy-aid for any trained individual; the ETAK's enhanced items require provider training and authorization.
Is the ETAK suitable for non-medical law enforcement officers?
The ETAK's hemorrhage control components (C-A-T® tourniquet, ETD, HyFin® Vent) are appropriate for any officer trained in basic hemorrhage control (Stop the Bleed, LEFR-TCC). The ARS® needle decompression and NPA components are restricted to providers authorized under their state/local scope of practice to perform needle thoracostomy and airway adjunct placement.
Does the ETAK have an NSN for government procurement?
ETAK components (SKU 80-0483) are available through North American Rescue's federal supply channels. NSN assignment for the complete kit assembly should be confirmed with DLA or North American Rescue. Individual components (C-A-T®, HyFin®, ARS®) each carry their own NSNs for component-level procurement.
What pouch system is the ETAK designed for?
The ETAK is packaged in a NAR-designed carry pouch compatible with MOLLE/PALS webbing and belt-mount configurations. Dimensions and specific mount hardware should be confirmed with the current production specification. The pouch is designed for immediate access — consistent with the ETAK's role as an on-body operator kit.
