North American Rescue — Pressure Bandage

Mini Responder 4″ Emergency Trauma Dressing

The lightest, most compact bandage in the ETD family — 2.0 oz, flat-packed, hook-and-loop simple. For EDC, ankle kits, and slim patrol carry.

2.0 oz4″ × 6″ pad60″ wrapHook-and-loop

A standard ETD is already compact, but slim EDC pouches, ankle holsters, and plainclothes carry count every ounce and every fraction of an inch. Leaving out a real trauma bandage to save space is the wrong trade.

How do you keep a legitimate trauma bandage in a kit with no room?

The Mini Responder is the lightest trauma bandage NAR makes — 2.0 oz in a flat 4.25″ × 2.75″ × 0.875″ package. It keeps a 4″ × 6″ sterile non-adherent pad (enough for most extremity wounds) and uses a hook-and-loop closure that is the simplest in the ETD family to apply: wrap and press, no locking device, no technique. Quick-Grip Roll Control keeps it from unrolling if dropped.

Minimal Footprint, Real Capability

2.0 oz, Flat-Packed

Fits ankle holsters, soft-side EDC pouches, jacket pockets, and plainclothes IFAKs where a standard ETD adds bulk.

Hook-and-Loop Closure

The simplest securing in the ETD family — wrap and press. No locking pressure device, no threading.

4″ × 6″ Non-Adherent Pad

Sufficient coverage for the majority of extremity wounds despite the compact format.

Quick-Grip Roll Control

Tabs prevent unrolling if dropped — field reliability in a mini footprint.

Who Carries It

EDC & ankle kits — real trauma bandage in minimal-profile carry

Plainclothes / patrol — slim, concealable, gloves-on simple

Backup bandage — secondary to a primary ETD, or fill for entry-level and public-access kits

Build the Slim Kit

Compact carry still needs the core interventions.

When to Deploy Mini Responder 4 in. Emergency Trauma Dressing

  • IFAK hemorrhage control: The Mini Responder 4-inch ETD fits in compact IFAKs and EDC kits where the standard 6-inch ETD is too large — providing pressure dressing capability without sacrificing pack space.
  • Extremity wound management: The 4-inch format is sized for extremity wounds on arms, legs, and the head, where the standard 6-inch ETD may be difficult to apply effectively.
  • Pediatric trauma response: The smaller format is more appropriate for pediatric patients where the full-size ETD wrapping is difficult to manage on smaller torso and extremity dimensions.
  • Resupply for compact kits: Mini T-PAK, M-FAK, and other compact kits that specify a 4-inch dressing use the Mini Responder as their standard pressure dressing component.
  • Training and certification programs: The 4-inch size is used in civilian Stop the Bleed and CERT training programs where the smaller format is specified for the training kit.

What's Included:

  • 1 × NAR Mini Responder 4 in. Emergency Trauma Dressing
  • Sterile, vacuum-packaged

Best Practice: Apply the Mini Responder ETD with the wound-contact pad directly over the bleed site. Use the elastic wrap to maintain firm direct pressure throughout transport — the pressure bar maintains pressure without continuous manual hold.

How Mini Responder 4 in. Emergency Trauma Dressing Compares

Mini Responder (4 in.) vs. standard ETD (6 in.): The 6-inch ETD is the standard for most adult trauma applications and large wound coverage. The 4-inch Mini Responder fits compact kits and is sized for extremity and pediatric applications. Both feature the same pressure bar and wrap mechanism. See all ETD options at tactical-medicine.com.

Mini Responder vs. standard gauze bandage: A standard gauze bandage requires manual pressure maintenance throughout transport. The ETD's pressure bar locks in compression, freeing the provider's hands for other interventions while maintaining wound pressure.

Mini Responder ETD vs. Israeli bandage (commercial): The NAR Mini Responder ETD and the Israeli bandage share the same functional design — both use a wound pad, elastic wrap, and pressure bar. NAR versions are manufactured to consistent military specification tolerances.

Mini Responder 4 in. Emergency Trauma Dressing — Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Mini Responder ETD a CoTCCC-recommended item?

A: Emergency Trauma Dressings are recognized in TCCC guidelines as pressure dressings for hemorrhage control. Verify current CoTCCC recommendation status in the most recent TCCC guidelines at deployed-medicine.com.

Q: What is the difference between the 4-inch and 6-inch ETD?

A: The 4-inch Mini Responder is sized for compact IFAK and EDC kit use, extremity wounds, and pediatric applications. The 6-inch standard ETD provides greater wound coverage for larger wounds and adult torso applications. Both feature the same pressure bar mechanism.

Q: Can this dressing be used on penetrating chest wounds?

A: No. Penetrating chest wounds require an occlusive vented chest seal (such as HyFin® Vent) to manage tension pneumothorax risk. The ETD is a pressure dressing for external hemorrhage control, not an occlusive chest wound dressing.

Q: How many come in a package?

A: The Mini Responder ETD is sold as a single sterile unit. Multi-pack options may be available — verify current packaging at narescue.com or through an authorized distributor.

Q: What training is needed to apply an ETD?

A: The ETD application is covered in Stop the Bleed, CERT, TCCC, and most first aid courses. The pressure bar and wrap mechanism is designed for rapid one-handed application by minimally trained responders.
