The NAR Polycarbonate Eye Shield (PES) is a shatterproof, convex rigid eye shield that meets CoTCCC treatment protocols for penetrating eye trauma. Manufactured by North American Rescue from high-strength translucent orange polycarbonate, it protects the injured eye from external pressure while allowing air circulation through ventilation holes. Fits either eye; engraved application instructions on shell. Available individually or in a pack of 100.

Product Overview
Penetrating eye trauma is a significant cause of preventable vision loss in both military and civilian trauma. In the absence of appropriate protection at the point of injury, external pressure on a penetrating eye injury — from hands, bandages, or accidental contact — can cause further extrusion of ocular contents and permanently worsen prognosis. The NAR Polycarbonate Eye Shield is the standard-of-care solution for prehospital penetrating eye protection, meeting CoTCCC treatment protocols for this injury mechanism.
The PES is a convex dome of rigid, shatterproof polycarbonate that is placed directly over the injured eye and secured with medical tape at the perimeter. Its dome geometry creates a protective air space between the shield and the eye, preventing direct contact and blocking any external pressure that could worsen penetrating injuries. The shield is translucent orange, which allows light transmission sufficient to allow the patient to detect gross light/dark changes while remaining protected, and distinguishes it from other eye coverings in a kit.
Application is straightforward: the engraved instruction on the outer surface — "Tape over eye this side out. Nothing under shield" — provides field-level guidance without requiring additional training. Ventilation holes in the shield allow air circulation to prevent moisture buildup and reduce pressure against the orbit. The shield works equally well over either eye, and at only 0.2 oz, it adds negligible weight to any IFAK or aid bag. It is available individually for primary kit loading or in packs of 100 for unit-level resupply.
