How do I use a fingertip pulse oximeter correctly?

Insert the fingertip (index or middle finger is standard) fully into the device until contact is confirmed. Hold still for 5–10 seconds for the reading to stabilize. Ensure the fingernail is not dark-polished. Poor peripheral circulation (shock, vasoconstriction, hypothermia) can impair accuracy — in those cases, reassess with earlobe placement if available. Remove any nail polish interfering with measurement.

Should every IFAK include a pulse oximeter?
