PRODUCT INFORMATION

Convertible Operator-Medic Kit — TacMed™

One kit. Thigh or chest. No repacking.

The TacMed™ Convertible Drop Leg Medic Kit converts between drop-leg thigh carry and MOLLE vest/armor carry without re-packing a single item. At 9.5″ × 9″ × 2″, the Basic build carries a SOF® Tourniquet, OLAES® modular bandages, gauze, and an NPA airway; the Advanced build adds a 14G needle-decompression kit for licensed providers. Four colors.

Drop-Leg ↔ MOLLESOF® TourniquetBasic / Advanced4 Colors

An operator-medic needs the kit in different places for different phases — on the thigh for foot patrol, on the chest or armor for vehicle work and assaults. Stopping to unpack and re-stage a kit between those configurations is a non-starter when the mission tempo changes mid-movement.

Can your kit move from your thigh to your armor without you repacking a single item?

This platform converts between drop-leg and MOLLE mounting without re-packing, built around TacMed’s OLAES® modular bandages — which combine a pressure dressing, occlusive layer, and improvised-tourniquet function in one device. The SOF® Tourniquet provides primary extremity hemorrhage control, the Basic build covers the core of the MARCH algorithm, and the Advanced build adds needle decompression for credentialed providers.

Flexible Carry, Fixed Capability

Convertible Mount

Drops on the thigh for patrol, then attaches to a MOLLE vest or armor for vehicle and assault phases — no re-packing required.

OLAES® Modular Core

4″ and 6″ OLAES® bandages give the medic multiple dressing options across wound sizes, each combining pressure, occlusion, and improvised-TQ function.

SOF® Tourniquet

CoTCCC-recommended primary extremity tourniquet staged for fast deployment.

Airway & Chest Coverage

An NPA with lubricant addresses the Airway phase of MARCH; petrolatum gauze provides basic chest-wound coverage.

BLAST® / Blast Bandage

A large-surface trauma bandage for blast and large-area wounds beyond what a standard dressing covers.

Advanced = Provider Decompression

The Advanced build adds a TPAK 14G × 3.25″ angiocath for tension-pneumothorax decompression — a prescription device requiring licensed-provider authorization.

What’s In The Kit

Basic Configuration

  • 1× SOF® Tactical Tourniquet (CoTCCC-recommended)
  • 1× OLAES® 4″ Modular Bandage · 1× OLAES® 6″
  • 1× Blast® Bandage
  • 1× Compressed / ZPAK Gauze · 1× Petrolatum Gauze
  • 1× NPA w/Lubricant · 1× 5.5″ Trauma Shears
  • 1× 2″ Surgical Tape · 3 PR Nitrile Gloves (XL)
  • 1× Combat Casualty Card

Advanced Adds

  • 1× TPAK 14G × 3.25″ Angiocath (needle decompression)
  • Requires licensed-provider authorization prior to fulfillment

Advanced configuration is a controlled item. The TPAK 14-gauge angiocath for needle chest decompression is, under U.S. federal law, restricted to sale by or on the order of a licensed practitioner. Authorization from a credentialed medical professional is required before this configuration ships, and the device should be used only within your scope of practice.

The Kit Is The System

The convertible mount is only an advantage if the layout is consistent and rehearsed. Pack it the same way, train the drop-leg-to-MOLLE swap, and drill retrieval in both positions — the platform adapts to the mission while the muscle memory stays fixed.

Who Fields It

Operators & SWAT — thigh access on patrol, chest/armor access on the stack — same kit, no re-stage.

Tactical Medics — a flexible primary or backup platform that follows the mission profile.

Patrol With Vehicle Ops — drop-leg out of the car, MOLLE-mounted for extended movement.

Training Cadre — one convertible layout to standardize students across carry methods.

When to Choose the TacMed Convertible Drop Leg Kit

  • SWAT & Tactical Operators in Multi-Phase Missions — thigh carry during vehicle insertion and patrol, then quick-mount to MOLLE vest for breach/assault phases without stopping to repack. Eliminates the choice between two separate kits for different carry modes.
  • Patrol Officers with Mixed Vehicle & Foot Duties — drop-leg carry provides unrestricted access when seated in a patrol vehicle; MOLLE mount shifts the kit to the vest when the officer dismounts for extended foot patrol or building entry.
  • Tactical Medics Who Need Provider-Level Supplies — the Advanced configuration adds a TPAK 14G needle decompression kit for licensed providers, making this a complete MARCH-capable pouch for credentialed team medics.
  • Training Programs Standardizing Across Carry Methods — a single convertible platform lets cadre demonstrate and rehearse both carry positions with identical equipment, simplifying sustainment training across multi-mission units.

Convertible Drop Leg Kit vs. The Alternatives

  • vs. Blue Force Gear Ten-Speed Trauma Kit: The Blue Force Gear IFAK is a MOLLE-only slim pouch with excellent low-profile characteristics but no drop-leg capability. The TacMed Convertible excels when carry-mode flexibility is the operational requirement; BFG wins when minimizing vest footprint is the priority.
  • vs. NAR Individual Operator Kit (IOK): The NAR IOK is a pre-filled IFAK in a fixed MOLLE pouch. It offers a factory-complete loadout but no convertible carry mode. The TacMed Convertible is the choice when operators need to reconfigure carry position during a mission without unpacking supplies.
  • vs. Separate Drop-Leg Pouch + MOLLE IFAK: Carrying two separate pouches for two carry modes adds roughly 20 oz of gear and doubles the packing/unpacking steps. The Convertible Drop Leg Kit consolidates this into one 9.5" × 9" × 2" package with a built-in mounting conversion — the single-kit solution for operators who move between vehicle and dismounted environments.

Frequently Asked Questions — Convertible Drop Leg Medic Kit

Q: Does the convertible mounting system require any tools or removal of supplies?

A: No tools are required and no supplies need to be removed. The Convertible Drop Leg Kit uses integrated mounting hardware that allows the operator to detach the leg straps and attach the rear MOLLE panel to a vest or plate carrier (or vice versa) with the kit fully loaded. The conversion is designed to be completed in the field between mission phases.

Q: What is the OLAES® Modular Bandage and why are two sizes included?

A: The OLAES® (Operational Local Anesthetic Elastic Splint) bandage is a multi-function dressing manufactured by Tactical Medical Solutions that combines an elastic pressure wrap, an occlusive insert for chest wounds, and enough elastic length to serve as an improvised tourniquet. The 4-inch version is suited for most extremity wounds and smaller lacerations; the 6-inch version handles larger truncal wounds and provides more circumferential pressure for larger-diameter limbs. Having both sizes in one kit covers the full range of wound presentations without requiring the provider to improvise.

Q: What is the BLAST® Bandage and when is it used?

A: The BLAST® Bandage is a large-surface emergency trauma dressing designed for blast, shrapnel, and large-area wounds that exceed what a standard 4-inch or 6-inch pressure dressing can cover. It is particularly useful for abdominal evisceration, junctional wounds at the groin or axilla, and large soft-tissue injuries. The BLAST® is included in the TacMed Drop Leg Kit to extend wound-coverage capability beyond what OLAES® bandages alone can address.

Q: Which color options are available and do all colors come in both Basic and Advanced?

A: The Convertible Drop Leg Kit is available in Black, Coyote Tan, Olive Drab, and Multicam. All four color options are available in both the Basic configuration (SKUs DLB-B, DLB-T, DLB-G, DLB-MC) and the Advanced configuration (DLA-B, DLA-T, DLA-G, DLA-MC). The Advanced configuration requires licensed-provider authorization prior to fulfillment due to the included TPAK 14G needle decompression device.
