Product Overview
The VISM Soft Ballistic Rectangle Panel is specifically designed for the largest use case in civilian protective inserts: backpack and bag armor. At approximately 1 lb across all three available sizes, this panel adds handgun-stopping protection to virtually any larger backpack, school bag, or laptop case with essentially no perceptible weight impact for adults, and a manageable addition for school-age children. The UHMWPE soft panel provides Level IIIA protection — capable of stopping 9mm, .357 Magnum, .40 S&W, and similar common handgun rounds.
UHMWPE is used here in a flexible soft panel format rather than a rigid hard plate construction — the panel has meaningful flexibility compared to hard armor plates, which allows it to conform to the natural curve of a bag's back panel and sit more naturally against the wearer's back when the bag is carried. At 8"×10", 10"×12", or 11"×14", the rectangular format maximizes the protected area within straight-sided bag pockets that are common in school and everyday carry backpacks.
The Level IIIA rating means this panel is tested against handgun threats — the most probable threat encountered in schools, offices, and public spaces in the United States. It does not protect against rifle ammunition. For environments where rifle threats are a documented concern, the VISM Hard Ballistic Rectangle Panel (Level III+) should be selected instead. For most school and workplace active threat scenarios, where the primary threat vector has historically been handgun-caliber weapons, the soft Level IIIA panel provides meaningful, cost-effective protection.
