Which gauze variant should I pick?

Pick Compressed Gauze if you want a simple, training-friendly wound-packing gauze with no active hemostatic agent. Pick QuikClot® Hemostatic Gauze if you want kaolin-based rapid clotting in a standard 3" × 48" format. Pick Celox® Rapid Ribbon if you want the fastest working time — Celox Rapid is designed to achieve hemostasis with only 60 seconds of compression, compared to the standard 3-minute hold for most hemostatic gauzes.

Is the QuikClot gauze in this kit the same as military Combat Gauze?

No. This kit contains the civilian QuikClot® 3" × 48" Hemostatic Gauze — not the military QuikClot® Combat Gauze™ Z-Fold. Both use kaolin as the hemostatic agent and work by the same clotting mechanism, but Combat Gauze is the specific CoTCCC-recommended military Z-Fold format with a radio-opaque line for x-ray visibility. The rolled civilian gauze in this wallet kit is more compact and better suited to the slim form factor.

Why a SWAT-T instead of a C-A-T® or SOF-T®?

The SWAT-T® is a flat rubber strap tourniquet that rolls down to roughly the size of a deck of cards — small enough to fit in a wallet-format kit. A windlass tourniquet like the C-A-T® or SOF-T® will not fit this form factor. The SWAT-T also doubles as a pressure dressing and elastic wrap, which is useful in a minimalist EDC kit.

Does this wallet actually fit in a back pants pocket?

Yes. The Wallet Trauma Kit is designed specifically to fit in a standard back pocket of jeans, trousers, or tactical pants — the same space a standard bifold wallet occupies. The slim profile does not create noticeable bulk or imprint through most fabric, enabling discreet carry in everyday settings. It also fits in purse interior pockets, small EDC bags, and briefcase or laptop bag pockets.

Who is this kit built for, and how does it compare to a full IFAK?

The Wallet Trauma Kit is built for off-duty law enforcement, off-duty EMS, prepared civilians with Stop the Bleed or equivalent training, travelers, teachers, and anyone who wants bleeding-control capability on-body without carrying a visible IFAK. It is not a replacement for a full IFAK — a full IFAK adds chest seals, airway management, and additional dressings. For plain-clothes officers, the practical recommendation is to carry the Wallet Trauma Kit daily and keep a full IFAK in a vehicle or bag for higher-risk operations. The wallet closes the gap between having nothing and having everything.

Can untrained bystanders use this kit effectively?

The wallet is built to be as intuitive as possible, but wound packing with hemostatic gauze is a skill that benefits from training. MED-TAC International recommends that buyers of the QuikClot® or Celox® variants complete a Stop the Bleed® or TCCC-based bleeding control course to learn proper technique. The Compressed Gauze variant is more accessible for untrained users in simple bleeding scenarios. Q7. What is the shelf life of the contents?

Hemostatic gauze (QuikClot® and Celox®) typically carries a 3-year shelf life from date of manufacture. Compressed gauze and SWAT-T® tourniquets do not expire under normal storage conditions but should be visually inspected regularly for packaging damage, heat exposure, or UV degradation. Replace any item that has been deployed or compromised.
