Product Overview

The SnakeStaff ETQ™ Gen 2 Wide addresses the primary clinical limitation of the 1" Standard version: a narrower band concentrates occlusive pressure over a smaller surface area, increasing the peak sub-cuff pressure for any given level of arterial occlusion. The Wide version's 1.5" Mil-Spec 4088 webbing brings it into alignment with the band width used by the industry's most validated CoTCCC-recommended windlass tourniquets — the C-A-T® Gen 7 and SOF-T® — while retaining the ETQ's compact, pocket-friendly form factor and the three patent-pending Gen 2 engineering features that distinguish it from comparable 1.5" windlass devices.

The Mil-Spec 4088 webbing specification ensures the band meets U.S. military material standards for strength, UV resistance, and abrasion tolerance. The reinforced band backing in Gen 2 prevents the webbing from folding in half during application — a failure mode that was the most common source of user-error complaints on the Gen 1. The enlarged carabiner lock (same gate size, larger interior cavity) makes windlass stowing more reliable after multiple turns, addressing the second most common Gen 1 user complaint. The net result is an EDC tourniquet that tolerates the learning curve of application better than its predecessors, widening the population of users who can apply it successfully under stress with minimal training.

The ETQ Gen 2 Wide is the recommended choice when selecting between the ETQ Standard and Wide for users who anticipate applications on larger adult limbs, users with stronger hand grip (who can generate sufficient windlass torque on a 1.5" band), or users who want to closely mirror the band dimensions of their primary duty tourniquet. See the ETQ Gen 2 Standard (1") for the most compact carry option. Browse the complete tourniquets & pouches collection at MED-TAC International.

How to Apply

  1. Thread the ETQ Wide around the limb 2–3 inches above the wound; the reinforced backing keeps the 1.5" band rigid during routing.
  2. Pull the free end of the band firmly through the Power Curve™ slot to remove all slack — even tension distribution reduces required windlass rotations.
  3. Grip the Tri-Grip Windlass™ — three flat faces provide secure purchase even with gloves or wet hands; use the Power Ring™ to ease the first two turns.
  4. Continue rotating until bleeding stops and distal pulse is absent; lock into the enlarged carabiner lock.
  5. Document application time immediately and communicate to all subsequent caregivers.

Comparison Context

The ETQ Gen 2 Wide (1.5") occupies the same band-width class as the C-A-T® Gen 7, SOF-T®, and SAM XT — all CoTCCC-recommended primary duty tourniquets. The ETQ Wide's differentiation is its EDC compact form factor. Its three patent-pending features represent genuine engineering advances over prior-generation windlass designs, and its Mil-Spec 4088 webbing is the same specification standard used in military procurement. The ETQ Wide is best understood as a high-quality backup or everyday carry device to complement a primary duty tourniquet, not to replace it in professional first-response kits requiring CoTCCC recommendation status.
