Product Overview
The SOF® Tourniquet was originally designed by Special Forces medics and has accumulated an unmatched track record of adoption among elite military units and law enforcement agencies. The 5th Generation (Gen 5) SOF® Tourniquet offered here by MED-TAC International through TacMed Solutions introduces the Rugged Buckle — a lightweight composite design that removes slack in a single fluid motion — and the Tourniquet Retention Assistance Clip™ (TRAC), which temporarily holds the windlass during engagement of the Tri-Ring Lock™. This dual-locking windlass system is a meaningful advancement for one-handed applications where the operator cannot free both hands to secure the windlass simultaneously.
The Slack Indicator Wedge — stitched into the compression band beneath the windlass in a contrasting color — provides a visual reference confirming that all excess band slack has been pulled before rotating the windlass. This reduces the number of rotations needed to reach arterial occlusion and eliminates one of the most common application failures: beginning windlass rotation with unremoved slack that prevents the band from generating sufficient pressure. The 1.5" true-width polyester compression band is UV, chemical, and moisture resistant, maintaining integrity under environmental conditions that degrade lesser materials.
The bundled TacMed™ Tourniquet Case (7" H × 3.75" W × 1.5" D) is a compact MOLLE-compatible pouch designed for one-hand access to a single staged SOF® Tourniquet. The case is constructed for secure retention and is designed to mirror the deployment interface used by 7 of the 10 largest U.S. police departments. MED-TAC International supplies only genuine TacMed Solutions SOF® Tourniquets manufactured in the USA — not counterfeit or third-party reproductions. The wide color matrix (5 tourniquet × 4 case colors) allows responders and agencies to match tactical color schemes or designate specific colors for training versus operational use.
How to Apply (One-Handed Self-Aid)
- Slide or unclip the SOF® Tourniquet loop over the injured limb, positioning it 2–3 inches above the wound.
- Pull the band tight using the Rugged Buckle in one fluid motion; confirm the Slack Indicator Wedge is no longer visible, confirming all slack is removed.
- Rotate the aluminum windlass until bleeding stops completely and no distal pulse is palpable.
- Secure the windlass into the TRAC clip temporarily, then lock it into the Tri-Ring Lock™ for final securement.
- Document the application time on the built-in time tag immediately. Reassess after any patient movement.
