What It Is

Where the CERS – Individual equips a responder to protect and treat themselves and a single buddy, the CERS – Rescue steps up to the medic role: a single responder carrying supplies and evacuation capability for up to four casualties. The Critical Event Rescue Kit inside the Signature Series Med-Pack contains four complete tourniquet/bandage/NPA sets organized by TacMed’s adjustable internal panel system, enabling rapid, consistent item access regardless of stress level. Four Rescue Orange SOF® Tourniquets allow immediate visual identification for casualty marking, a practice embedded in TCCC doctrine.

The HALO Vented Chest Seals address tension pneumothorax from penetrating chest wounds, and four NPAs address basic airway obstruction. The inclusion of a Foxtrot® DA Litter is a deliberate design choice: the Foxtrot stores compactly on the med-pack exterior in a ready-to-deploy configuration, enabling a single rescuer to begin casualty movement without waiting for additional personnel to bring evacuation equipment to the point of injury.

Personal protection is provided by the same TacMed™ Responder Plate Carrier with NIJ Level IIIA soft armor as the Individual system, plus the Universal Tourniquet Dispenser with two additional SOF® Tourniquets for self-care access. The Rescue package is built for the medic-level responder on an RTF team — whose primary mission is patient treatment rather than threat interdiction, and who needs the most comprehensive medical load-out available within a single-operator carry system.

For individual responder configuration, see the TacMed™ CERS – Individual. For supplemental chest and thoracic supplies, tourniquets, and full ballistic protection options, browse the MED-TAC catalog.

Who Needs the CERS Rescue Tier

  • RTF operators responsible for casualty extraction: The Critical Event Rescue Kit includes a Foxtrot® Litter accessible on the exterior of the low-profile backpack. Operators who may need to extract casualties from a warm zone need the Rescue tier over the Individual tier.
  • Fire/EMS responders assigned to paired law enforcement entry: RTF pairs where the medical provider carries the Rescue Kit for multi-casualty treatment while the LE partner carries the Individual tier.
  • NFPA 3000 Tier 2 compliance: Agencies required to demonstrate Tier 2 capabilities — personal protection, individual treatment, and litter-based casualty movement — fulfill the requirement with the CERS – Rescue as a single procurement.
  • Building-clearing operators who may encounter downed personnel: The litter on the Rescue Kit provides immediate casualty movement capability without returning to a staging area for equipment.
  • Mass gathering and public event medical security: For security operations at venues where mass casualty events are foreseeable, the Rescue tier provides multi-casualty treatment and movement capability in one carried system.
NFPA 3000™ Tier 2 note: The CERS – Rescue meets and exceeds Tier 2 NFPA 3000 requirements. The system is customizable in color, protection level, and medical contents for agency requirements. Contact TacMed at 888-822-6331 for multi-unit agency pricing.

CERS Rescue vs. Individual vs. Mass Casualty

Added over CERS – Individual: The Rescue tier adds the Critical Event Rescue Kit — a Signature Series Med-Pack platform backpack with contents for multiple-casualty treatment plus a Foxtrot® Litter on the exterior. The Individual Kit remains on the carrier for immediate personal-/buddy-care; the Rescue Kit is the supplement for multi-casualty response.

CERS Rescue vs. Mass Casualty: The Rescue tier treats the operator and up to several additional casualties and moves them. The Mass Casualty tier adds the Warm Zone ARK for 8-casualty throw-kit distribution and two Ultralight Poleless Litters. The Rescue tier is the right choice when mass-casualty-scale events (8+ simultaneous) are unlikely.

Foxtrot® Litter in context: The Foxtrot® Litter attaches to the exterior of the Rescue Kit backpack for immediate access — it does not require opening the bag or locating equipment under load. For agencies already carrying dedicated litter bags, the Rescue Kit backpack integrates that function into the CERS platform seamlessly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does the Critical Event Rescue Kit backpack contain?

A: The Critical Event Rescue Kit uses the Signature Series Med-Pack backpack platform with internal adjustable panels and contains contents for multi-casualty treatment — typically including SOF® Tourniquets, OLAES® bandages, chest seals, and airway adjuncts — plus a Foxtrot® Litter on the exterior. The exact contents can be customized for agency requirements. Contact TacMed at info@tacmedsolutions.com for a content manifest.

Q: Can the Rescue Kit be detached and deployed separately from the plate carrier?

A: Yes. The Critical Event Rescue Kit backpack is a separate component from the Responder Plate Carrier. It can be worn independently as a backpack when the operator needs to remove the carrier (e.g., during extended medical operations or when transitioning from an active threat zone to a casualty collection point) while retaining access to the medical supplies and litter.
