The TacMed™ K-9 Tourniquet by Tactical Medical Solutions is a purpose-built veterinary tourniquet engineered for the tapered anatomy of a working dog's leg. Its integrated traction technology prevents slippage during application and patient movement — a critical failure mode when human-use tourniquets are applied to canine limbs. Placed high on the limb for maximum effectiveness. Not for human use. Weight: 4 oz. SKU: MEDTAC0411. Made in the USA.

Product Overview
Working dogs — police K9s, military working dogs (MWDs), search and rescue animals, and service dogs — are deployed in the same high-risk environments as their human partners and face the same risk of traumatic limb injury from gunfire, shrapnel, or sharp-force trauma. Unlike human limbs, a dog's leg is anatomically tapered: it is significantly wider at the top (near the body) and narrows toward the paw. This geometry makes standard human tourniquets categorically ineffective — a flat-buckle or windlass tourniquet that can be tightened on a human limb cannot generate sufficient proximal compression on a tapered limb without migrating distally and losing contact with arterial anatomy.
The TacMed™ K-9 Tourniquet by Tactical Medical Solutions was designed specifically to address this anatomical challenge. Its integrated traction technology — a proprietary feature incorporating anti-slip elements into the band and body — grips the canine limb and resists migration toward the narrower distal end of the leg, maintaining consistent proximal compression even as the animal moves, is extricated, or is transported. This anti-migration function is precisely the failure mode that makes human tourniquets unreliable for K9 hemorrhage control: when a human-design tourniquet migrates downward on a tapered leg, the slack created immediately reduces or eliminates occlusive pressure, and the resulting false security can be fatal.
The TacMed K-9 Tourniquet is made by Tactical Medical Solutions — the same manufacturer behind the CoTCCC-recommended SOF-T® Tourniquet — applying decades of advanced tourniquet engineering to the veterinary application. It is the ideal companion to a K9 handler's duty kit alongside human hemorrhage control equipment. How to Apply (K9 Use)
- Assess the injury site — identify the bleeding limb and the approximate wound location.
- Position the K-9 Tourniquet as high on the injured limb as practical (proximal to the body), directly against the skin/fur where the limb is widest.
- Thread the band around the limb and secure per device instructions — the traction elements will engage against the limb surface to resist migration.
- Tighten to control bleeding — verify hemostasis by observing wound site.
- Keep the animal as calm and still as possible; seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Communicate tourniquet application time to the attending veterinarian.
Important Use Notice
The TacMed™ K-9 Tourniquet is engineered for veterinary use only and must not be used on human patients. Its band geometry, traction elements, and sizing are optimized for canine limb anatomy, which is functionally incompatible with the requirements of human extremity hemorrhage control. For human hemorrhage control needs, use a CoTCCC-recommended tourniquet such as the C-A-T® Gen 7, SOF-T®, or SAM XT.
The SWAT-T elastic tourniquet is also documented as effective for K9 use on smaller breeds in the absence of a purpose-built K9 tourniquet. See the SWAT-T Tourniquet for this secondary option. For human bleeding control kits, browse the full tourniquets & pouches collection.
