North American Rescue — Blood & Fluid Warming, Provider-Scope

QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System

The lightest portable blood and IV fluid warmer in its class — 22 oz operational, warming refrigerated whole blood or crystalloid to 100.4°F in a 24-second cold start. Engineered for warm resuscitation at the point of injury, where hypothermia kills. A licensed-provider system.

22 oz Operational24-Second Warmup100.4°F OutputFDA Cleared

Cold blood resuscitation drives hypothermia — one corner of the lethal triad, alongside acidosis and coagulopathy. Transfusing whole blood stored at 39°F drops core temperature and worsens clotting at precisely the moment a hemorrhaging casualty can least afford it. The far-forward gap has always been the same: how do you give warm blood before the casualty reaches a facility?

What delivers normothermic blood at the point of injury — in seconds, off a battery, light enough to carry?

The QUANTUM brings normothermic resuscitation forward into Tactical Field Care and Prolonged Casualty Care, where conventional warmers can't go. Conductive heating elements run between the inner and outer walls of the thermal tubing set — entirely outside the fluid path — while thermistors feed temperature data to a 3-oz controller that modulates power from a 44V lithium battery in real time. The result is consistent 100.4°F (38°C ± 2°C) output regardless of input temperature or flow rate, from a 24-second cold start, with no additional standard transfusion set required. This is a provider-scope system — see the scope note below.

Provider scope: field administration of blood products and IV fluids is governed by training, credentialing, and medical-director authorization. The QUANTUM is intended for flight and critical-care paramedics, TCCC-qualified medics (18D, Corpsman, SF Medical Sergeant), physicians, PAs, and agencies operating a blood program under protocol. It is not a consumer or first-responder device. Deploy only within your scope of practice and your unit's transfusion protocol.

Why This System

Lightest In Class

22 oz operational — controller, battery, and tubing — light enough to carry forward in an aid bag.

24-Second Cold Start

From spike to normothermic output in under half a minute — no warmup standby required.

Heat Outside The Fluid Path

Conductive elements warm through the tubing wall — the blood never contacts the heating element.

Tactical Alert Silencing

The only portable warmer FDA cleared to disable audible alerts for covert operations.

What's In The Complete System

Qty Component Item #
1 QUANTUM Controller — 3 oz 35-0003
1 QUANTUM Battery — 16 oz, 44V lithium 35-0002
1 QUANTUM Charger 35-0001
2 Thermal Transfusion Set–Blood (TTS-B) or Thermal Infusion Set (TIS) 35-0005 / 35-0004

Clinical Context

Lethal triad — warm resuscitation counters the hypothermia that worsens coagulopathy and acidosis

Prolonged casualty care — sustained warm transfusion over a long field hold

Compatible fluids — whole blood, blood products including FDP, colloids, isotonics

When to Deploy QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System

What's Included (NAR SKU: N/A):

  • 1 × QUANTUM Controller (3 oz)
  • 1 × QUANTUM 44V Lithium Battery (16 oz)
  • 1 × QUANTUM Battery Charger
  • 2 × Thermal Transfusion Set — Blood (TTS-B, single-use, sterile, ethylene oxide processed)
  • Far-forward blood transfusion: The lightest portable blood warmer (22 oz operational weight) in its class — enables normothermic whole blood transfusion at point of injury or during TACEVAC.
  • Tactical field care and CASEVAC: 24-second warm-up time allows rapid initiation of warmed blood resuscitation without delay when a casualty enters hemorrhagic shock.
  • Special Operations medical support: Compact three-component system (controller, battery, TTS-B) fits in a medic bag alongside other TCCC supplies without the bulk of conventional warmers.
  • Cold-weather trauma resuscitation: Prevents transfusion-associated hypothermia when infusing refrigerated blood or cold IV fluids in austere environments.
  • Pre-hospital prolonged field care (PFC): Supports normothermic resuscitation protocols during extended casualty holds before surgical capability is available.

Field tip: The TTS-B is single-use — carry at minimum two per deployment for a single QUANTUM system, and add one per expected resuscitation event. The system handles set-up and priming like a standard IV set, requiring only two connection points.

How QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System Compares

QUANTUM System vs. conventional IV warmers: Standard in-line IV warmers require an external power source, add significant weight and bulk, and cannot maintain normothermic output at high flow rates. The QUANTUM integrates the heating element into a self-contained TTS-B set, delivers output at 100 mL/min on a 16-oz battery, and requires no additional IV administration set. See the complete QUANTUM system listing for full specs.

QUANTUM System vs. QinFlow Warrior EXTREME: The QUANTUM is being discontinued due to supply chain constraints. The QinFlow Warrior EXTREME is the current-production alternative for new blood warming capability. Providers with existing QUANTUM systems can continue operating while spare parts remain available; new procurements should consider alternatives.

Whole blood vs. crystalloid warming: The QUANTUM warms both whole blood/blood products and IV crystalloids. Crystalloid warming capacity is higher (1,700 mL per charge at 68°F input) because less energy is needed than for cold blood (39°F input, 2 units per charge). Know your expected resuscitation fluid type when planning battery reserves.

QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System — Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What distinguishes the QUANTUM from other portable blood warmers?

A: The QUANTUM achieves an operational weight of 22 oz (controller, battery, and one TTS-B) — the lightest in its class at time of fielding. The heating element is integrated into the single-use TTS-B transfusion set, eliminating the need for a separate administration set and reducing the total component count to three items. 24-second warm-up time enables rapid initiation at point of injury.

Q: Is the QUANTUM system still available for procurement?

A: North American Rescue has announced QUANTUM discontinuation due to insurmountable supply chain manufacturing challenges. Existing systems remain functional. New procurement of batteries, TTS-B disposables, and system components is available while current stock lasts. Providers planning long-term blood warming programs should evaluate current-production alternatives.

Q: Is the QUANTUM Blood Warming System CoTCCC-recommended?

A: The QUANTUM system supports CoTCCC blood resuscitation protocols by maintaining normothermic blood delivery. CoTCCC guidelines recommend warmed blood for resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock in tactical environments — the QUANTUM enables compliance with that recommendation in far-forward settings.

Q: Who is qualified to operate the QUANTUM system?

A: The QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System is intended for trained medical providers — Combat Medics, Special Operations medical personnel, paramedics, and other providers credentialed for blood product administration. Operation requires training in blood transfusion protocols and QUANTUM system-specific setup and priming.

Q: What is the NSN for the QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System?

A: Contact MED-TAC International for current NSN and procurement information. NSN data and government pricing are available through the store's government procurement support team.
