The QUANTUM system's primary blood-warming tubing set — cleared for whole blood, blood products including FDP, colloids, and isotonics. The 80″ set is the IV administration line and the warming element in one, warming 39°F blood to 100.4°F in 24 seconds with no separate transfusion set required.

Conventional blood warming stacks two things in the fluid path: an IV set, and a separate warming device with its own tubing. More connections, more priming, more failure points — and contact between the blood and a heating surface.

What if the warming element lived in the tubing wall, and the line was the only set you needed?

The TTS-B is the IV administration tubing and the warming element in one. The heating element is double-extruded between the inner and outer tubing walls — completely outside the fluid path — so blood never contacts it: no thermal damage, no flow disruption, no contamination risk. Thermistors along the line feed the QUANTUM Controller, which modulates 44V power to hold target output at the patient end regardless of flow rate, input temperature, or ambient conditions. Cleared for whole blood, pRBC, FDP-reconstituted product, colloids, and isotonics — the single set for any QUANTUM blood-warming application.

What blood products can be used with the Thermal Transfusion Set–Blood (TTS-B)?

The TTS-B (NAR 35-0005) is cleared for use with whole blood, packed red blood cells, freeze-dried plasma (FDP) reconstituted product, colloids, and isotonic IV solutions. It is the only QUANTUM tubing set approved for blood warming applications. The Thermal Infusion Set (TIS, 35-0004) is for IV solutions only and should not be used with blood or blood products.

Does the TTS-B replace a standard blood transfusion set?

Yes. Unlike other blood warmers that require a conventional transfusion set in addition to the warming device's proprietary tubing, the TTS-B functions as the complete IV administration set. It includes the drip chamber (with integrated blood filter), heating element, and patient delivery line in one set. No additional standard transfusion set is required, reducing kit weight and simplifying setup under stress.

How does the TTS-B heat blood without contaminating the fluid path?

The TTS-B uses a double-extrusion manufacturing process that places a conductive heating element between the tubing's inner and outer layers — completely outside the fluid path. The inner tubing layer transfers heat from the element to the blood or fluid flowing through it, while the outer layer acts as insulation. This architecture ensures the heating element never contacts the fluid, preventing contamination and eliminating concerns about thermal damage from localized heating hotspots.

How many TTS-B sets are needed per transfusion event?

One TTS-B set is required per blood transfusion event. Each set is single-use. Item 35-0005 is sold in packs of 2, providing sets for two transfusion events per pack. Organizations planning multiple transfusion events (e.g., walking blood bank operations or PFC missions with multiple casualties) should stock sufficient TTS-B supply based on their operational planning assumptions.

Can the TTS-B be used without the QUANTUM system?

No. The TTS-B is exclusively compatible with the QUANTUM Blood & Fluid Warming System (Controller 35-0003 + Battery 35-0002). The heating element in the tubing wall requires the electrical power and temperature modulation delivered by the QUANTUM Controller. Without the Controller and Battery connected, the TTS-B functions as a standard IV tubing set without any warming capability.
